Alida Aldrich, principal designer at The Aldrich Company, launched her landscape design business in Los Angeles in 1982. Having an appreciation for the more rural feel of Santa Barbara, and to expand her company’s reach, she opened her office in Montecito in 1996.
Passionate about her work - and her clients, Ms. Aldrich’s award-winning landscape designs have been featured in Montecito Magazine, Coastal Living Magazine, California Homes Magazine, Seasons Magazine, Sunset Magazine, The Los Angeles Times and The Santa Barbara News-Press.

Santa Barbara’s mild climate is fortunate to be one of six Mediterranean regions on Earth. But… this blessing calls for a specific plant palette when designing a garden.
Climate change aside, environmental conditions drive the meticulous evaluation of a site before designing a successful - and sustainable garden.
I take my cue for a garden design based upon the architectural style of a residence. Working with a broad Mediterranean plant palette doesn’t restrict the design to a Spanish-style garden . It is possible to design gardens that compliment Contemporary, Tropical, Seaside, Traditional, Historical and even Asian architecture.
Guided by a rich plant palette, the design principals of texture / shape / color / and size - as well as a sensitivity to ‘form follows function’ - I am able to create graceful gardens for my clients to enjoy – year round.
